Statement Of Faith

GCR Site IconWe believe

The Bible, consisting of the Old and New Testaments in their original form, is the fully inspired and only infallible Word of God. We accept it as the supreme and final authority in all matters of doctrine, faith and life.

There is one God, who is self-revealed in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These are the three eternal distinctions in one divine being.

The deity of the Lord Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, His sinless life, His miracles, His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, His bodily resurrection, His ascension to the right hand of God the Father, His personal future return to reign in power and glory.

Man was created good and upright in the image of God. But man, by voluntary transgression, fell, and his only hope of redemption is in Jesus Christ the Son of God.

The only means of being cleansed from sin is through repentance toward God and faith in the finished work of the Lord Christ Jesus on Calvary. Man is justified by grace alone and this through faith.

They who receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour by faith, are born again by the Holy Spirit and become Children and heirs of God. The New Birth is absolutely essential for personal salvation and eternal life.

The Lord Jesus appointed two ordinances – believer’s baptism by immersion in water as a public witness and confession of faith and identification with Christ declaring that we have died with Jesus and have also been raised with Him to walk with Him in newness of life, symbolical of being baptised in one body – and the Lord’s Supper is the partaking of the emblems, the bread and the fruit of the vine, as a memorial of His suffering and death and a prophecy of His second coming by all believers “until He come”.

The sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a life of righteousness and true holiness.

The baptism of the Holy Spirit with the speaking in other tongues as the Spirit gives them utterance and the operation of the gifts of the Holy Spirit for the edification of the body of Christ.

The Church is the body of Christ, the habitation of God through the Spirit, with divine appointment for the fulfilment of her great commission. Each Christian believer who is redeemed by Jesus Christ and regenerated by the Holy Spirit is part of that body. In reflecting the greater body of the church, the new birth and a personal confession of Christ are essentials for discipleship.

The Great Commission of Matthew 28 is still the mandate for the Church, which consists of the adopted sons and daughters of God. The Commission calls dor discipleship, where each and every person of the Body of Christ must be discipled for the purpose of discipling others and also to be actively involved in building God’s Kingdom.

Disciples follow and go, and for those who follow Jesus are all called to advance the Kingdom through reaching the lost, the unsaved and broken. Baptising in Spirit and water, evangelism, deliverance and declaring the Good News is all the function, purpose and task of such a believer.

The Redemptive work of Christ on the cross provides healing for the human body – it is the privilege of all believers and as a sign following to confirm the preached Word of God to unbelievers.

The resurrection of both the saved and the lost, the one to everlasting life and the other to everlasting damnation.

Values

1) Sound doctrine, thus preaching and teaching only the Gospel of the Kingdom. “Galatians 1: 6 I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, 7 which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. 9 As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.”

2) The Truth of God, and no other truth. “John 16: 13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.”

3) The Great Commission and Discipleship: “Matthew 28: 18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

4) Seeking and pursuing the Kingdom of God above all else, thus seeking only the will of the Father (Matthew 6 verses 9-10, Matthew 6 verse 33).

5) True faith: The Protestant Reformers recognised that biblical faith has three essential aspects: notitia, assensus, and fiducia.

a) Notitia refers to the content of faith, or those things that we believe. We place our faith in something, or more appropriately, someone. In order to believe, we must know something about that someone, who is the Lord Jesus Christ.

b) Assensus is our conviction that the content of our faith is true. You can know about the Christian faith and yet believe that it is not true. Genuine faith says that the content – the notitia taught by Holy Scripture – is true.

c) Fiducia refers to personal trust and reliance. Knowing and believing the content of the Christian faith is not enough, for even demons can do that (James 2:19). Faith is only effectual if, knowing about and assenting to the claims of Jesus, one personally trusts in Him alone for salvation.

6) The Five Solas:

*Sola scriptura (by Scripture alone)

*Sola fide (by faith alone)

*Sola gratia (by grace alone)

*Solus Christus or Solo Christo (Christ alone or through Christ alone)

*Soli Deo Gloria (glory to God alone)

7) The continuing work of the Holy Spirit to empower, to equip, to lead, to guide and strengthen the disciples for service and to fulfill the Great Commission.
